CPE BACH Symphony for Strings in B minor
STANHOPE New Work [WORLD PREMIERE]
JANÁČEK Idyll for String Orchestra
HANDEL Concerto Grosso, Op.6 No.1
Dale Barltrop Guest Director & Lead Violin
The Australian Chamber Orchestra’s emerging artists ensemble, ACO2, premieres a new work by pre-eminent Australian composer Paul Stanhope in this one-off Sydney concert. This piece was specially commissioned for ACO2 by the Creative Music Fund and is inspired by lamentations, the descending scales of ‘tear’ patterns in early Baroque music and Jewish cantillations.
The concert sets off at a rollicking pace with CPE Bach’s Symphony for Strings in B minor, and features Janáček’s charming suite inspired by Baroque dance and one of Handel’s Concerti Grossi.
ACO2 combines Australia’s best young string players and ACO musicians. ACO2 performs all over Australia and has ignited the careers of many young musicians, including two violinists who went on to join the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
