Andreas Scholl is famous worldwide for his stylish performances of Baroque music and it is uplifting to perform Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater with him, as it is to begin the concert with Vivaldi’s sprightly Concerto Grosso RV117.
Excitingly, in this concert, Scholl fulfils a longheld desire to match contemporary music with the Baroque. Arvo Pärt’s vocal lines are as consoling and ideal for the intense beauty of Scholl’s voice as Vivaldi’s. Alongside these moments of reflection, full-throttle quartets by Schnittke and Glass.
